What is Mycelium?
Mycelium is essentially the roots of mushrooms and fungus. It has a branching structure (known as hyphae) and typically grows through soil and other nutrient-dense substrate. Mushrooms eventually grow from the mycelium and function as a fruiting body that directs energy and nutrients toward reproduction.
PROJECT GOALS
Design a method for producing mycelium bricks from agriculture waste that aligns with the Source Farm's values of honoring regenerative processes, preserving the natural environment, and sustainability.
OBJECTIVE
Successfully build mycelium bricks using a sustainable and replicable process. Construct a structure by bio-welding mycelium bricks together, followed by layering a protective seal.
CAUSES
-
sustainability
-
accessibility
-
affordability
-
negative to zero carbon emissions
-
repurposing agriculture waste
